Scope:
Provision of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) commissioning and delivery support and management of the ITS Contractor through the final stages of installation, testing, and commissioning for the $786 million Bridgewater Bridge project. The engagement focused on delivering a two-lane smart motorway system to improve traffic flow and safety across the Derwent River.
Key Activities:
- Contractor Management: Managed the progression of the ITS Contractor through live Operational Performance Testing (OPT) phases, ensuring successful handover from installation to operational readiness.
- Testing & Commissioning: Executed Fibre redundancy testing, Proof of Performance (POP), Subsystem Integration Testing (SIT), and STREAMS Acceptance Testing (SAT) in live traffic conditions. This included validating automatic response plans for slow-moving traffic (rolling blockade) and low-visibility scenarios with simulated weather.
- Compliance & Verification: Arranged site inspections and design reviews with the Department of State Growth (DSG) and the Independent Verifier to ensure all works met required standards.
Outcome:
Successful delivery and commissioning of the ITS infrastructure for Tasmania’s largest transport infrastructure project, contributing to its recognition as the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Australian Construction Achievement Award.
