Scope:

Upgrade of legacy HPS tunnel lighting to LED lighting for the Leura Tunnel in the Blue Mountains, NSW. The control system and UPS requirements were also specified as part of the works.

Key Activities:

• Design Process: Delivered design in two phases — Data Gathering Phase and Design Phase. This included ongoing negotiation with Transport for NSW specialists to confirm design requirements and objectives.
• Design Scope: Upgraded tunnel lighting, lighting controllers, relevant electrical equipment and cabling to ensure compliance with Australian and TfNSW Standards.
• Documentation: Produced Site Inspection Report, Design Reports, Design Drawings, Electrical modelling and held Risk Assessment and Safety in Design workshops with compilation of associated registers. Design Presentations were also held with Transport for NSW reviewers.

Outcome:

Completed comprehensive LED tunnel lighting and control system/ UPS design for the Leura Tunnel Upgrade. The project has significantly improved the driving environment, improved maintainability and safety of the tunnel and ensured compliance with Australian Standards.
